Contemporary circus company’s outstanding success in Holland

2015. September 11.

a production by Müpa Budapest and Recirquel

The Naked Clown, a production by the Recirquel Contemporary Circus Company, the featured guest performer of the Cultura Nova Festival was met with astounding success in front of an international audience.

Interrupting its Hungarian tour, the company set off to triumph at one of Holland’s most prestigious cultural festivals with the English-language version of its show, The Naked Clown, a joint production with Müpa Budapest. They were to be the highlight of the festival, since Cultura Nova based its entire image around this production, with its poster campaign in and around the town featuring the Hungarian company. Similarly to their resounding successes in Müpa Budapest, as well as in several theatres outside of Budapest and abroad, the Hungarian artists also received a standing ovation in Holland.

This autumn the company, whose 149 shows so far were seen by over 85 thousand people, will resume its Hungarian tour, visiting, among others, Debrecen, Békéscsaba, Szolnok, Veszprém and Dunaújváros. All three of their sell-out performances – Night Circus, The Naked Clown and Paris de Nuit – can also be seen in Müpa Budapest’s 2015/16 season. Their latest show, Non Solus, is set to debut in Müpa Budapest on 15 October during the CAFe Budapest Contemporary Arts Festival.

There is increasing demand for Recirquel abroad with a growing number of invitations. In December, they will perform for a month in Paris, the capital of the contemporary circus' homeland, followed by a visit to Santiago de Chile in January and a follow-up of last year’s tour in the South of France. In March, they will attend Latin America’s most prestigious theatre festival in Bogota with performances stretching over almost three weeks. This will be followed by trips to Tel-Aviv and Montreal. In the latter, they will perform in front of the crème de la crème of the contemporary circus scene at TOHU, a venue built by Cirque du Soleil.

Recirquel, Hungary’s first contemporary circus company was founded three years ago by choreographer and director Bence Vági, who invited the most talented Hungarian acrobats to introduce the Nouveau Cirque genre in Hungary and create quality artistic performances that combine the long-standing traditions of classical circus, as well as dance, theatre, song and music. The three full-length shows in their repertoire so far proved to be very popular among Müpa Budapest’s visitors of all ages
