Mendelssohn-Schumann Marathon

Year after year, one of the most eagerly awaited and most popular event of Müpa Budapest is the Marathon, offering a glimpse at the oeuvre of an outstanding composer. The 2016 Marathon is set to break with this tradition by showcasing not one, but two composers: the day-long series of concerts will feature the most beautiful pieces by Robert Schumann and Felix Mendelssohn, performed by the most eminent artists.

Schumann and Mendelssohn have a lot in common: they were contemporaries, both died tragically young and both were giants of German Romanticism. Their legacy includes works that impact us with overwhelming force; they are essential to the history of classical music.

On the day of the Schumann-Mendelssohn Marathon, visitors to Müpa Budapest can enjoy 11 concerts, lasting 45 minutes each, featuring the best works by the two composers. The chamber pieces will be performed in the Festival Theatre, while the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall will be the venue for the orchestral pieces. In addition, Schumann’s and Mendelssohn’s piano pieces will be performed by conservatory students in the Glass Hall throughout the day. Admission to the Glass Hall is free - everyone is welcome!

Tickets of each of the 50 minute concerts are 990 HUF, anyone purchasing three tickets is entitled to enter the fourth free of charge. So the cost of attending all 11 concerts is 8910 HUF instead of 10890 HUF.
