The Hungarian Radio Choir has been a dedicated supporter of modern music. They now present a selection from the works of ten composers, including German and British artists. The pieces offer an overview of the most diverse styles, allowing us to see the current state of choral music, and perhaps indicating how composers in their thirties look upon choral art.
Several of the works performed were written for the competition announced by the European Concert Hall Organization apropos o...f the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War. These include the piece of the thirty-year-old Stefan Johannes Hanke, who also composes for the Berlin Deutsche Oper, Máté Bella's new composition, and Emily Hall's Gastenboek. "Simple form,” said Ms Hall of her artistic credo, "is identical for me with the natural.” Catherine Kontz's music, which crosses generic and stylistic boundaries, and is often inspired by theatre, promises its audience a journey of adventure. Judit Varga and Péter Zombola are also artists in their thirties. The latter composer's choral work won the first prize at the Vántus István Composition Competition of Szeged.
