Kids’ (and parents’) favourite Uncle Dani Varró was born in 1977. Given that he claims to have achieved his first successes as a poet with an epic trilogy about a little bunny at the age of 12 (Nyuszika, Nyuszika szerelme, Nyuszika estéje), it was only at a comparatively late age that he became an author adored by children (with Túl a Maszat-hegyen – Beyond Smudge Mountain, 2003). With charm, magic and a cavalcade of rhymes and rhythms, his popularity has remained undiminished since the explosiv...e professional breakthrough of his début volume (Bögre azúr – Mug of Azure, 1999). A kindred spirit of Kormos, Weöres and Csukás, Varró is also a musician, with a child’s heart, an angelic spirit, a light touch and an immensely profound commitment to his craft. Besides the significant body of literary translations and work for theatre in his career so far, and the growing list of both adaptations and his own works, he also produced two volumes of children's poems – just to avoid getting too bogged down in all that serious theatrical work. And although there has been no danger of that happening so far, this evening is predestined – through the personality of its guest and all the circumstances around it – to be an occasion for carefree but demanding quality entertainment that will remain long in the memory. After all, we will also be taking part in an intellectual adventure, immersed in the enjoyment of captivating and brilliantly composed works. All this will be accompanied by many surprises, guests invited by the poet, Alinda Veiszer as hostess for the occasion, improvisations from the outstanding jazz singer Veronika Harcsa and the direction of Eszter Novák – and above all, the high standards ensured by the literary evenings at the Palace of Arts.
