The Bartók-Pásztory Award-winning Gabriella Thész and her Prima Prize-winning MR Children's Choir will perform their successful Christmas programme featuring not only works from Kodály, but also a precursor to the 2012 Year of Debussy and a look back on the Year of Liszt just coming to an end. By way of introduction, the audience will hear Claude Debussy's last song, the composer's rarely heard arrangement for children's choir with piano accompaniment. This will be followed by The Hymn of the Ch...ild on Awakening, originally written for piano by Ferenc Liszt as part of the Poetic and Religious Harmonies series. The evening will be elevated further by the presence of Edit Klukon and Dezső Ránki alongside the MR Children's Choir. These two outstanding experts of Liszt's music have collaborated on the lion's share of Liszt bicentennial celebrations at home and abroad. On the basis of their recent recordings and concert productions, this husband and wife duo ranks among the world's finest performers of music for four hands and two pianos. They will perform the arrangement for four hands of Liszt's Christmas Tree cycle, composed between 1874 and 1876, which differs from later Liszt compositions in its light-hearted tone. The series aims to capture the emotions and atmosphere of Christmas in each of its 12 movements: candlelight, chimes, shepherds, three kings, religious hymns and folk songs all rendered in the elderly composer’s inimitably angular style.
