An entire day of pulsating music for all ages. Beginning in the morning and running late into the evening, this one-day series of concerts gives a flavour of the remarkably colourful world of percussion music – from the 18th century to the modern day, from classical to jazz, from Mexico and the United States to the Europe of days long gone. In addition to popular works of the kind that always bring the house down, such as Orff’s Carmina Burana, and epoch–defining works like Bartók’s Sonata for t...wo pianos and percussion, the audience can expect to hear joyous improvisation from international stars, including Gary Burton, Chick Corea, the Tambuco Percussion Ensemble and Percussion. Choosing which of the seven concerts to attend may prove to be a difficult task, so we suggest you simply move into the Palace of Arts for the day. Bartók’s sonata and Stravinsky’s The Wedding, these two 20th-century classics of music written for the piano and percussion, can seldom be heard in the same programme—especially not with a host of pianists taking turns by the instrument. Kocsis will play Bartók’s piece with the wonderful Argentinean pianist, Ingrid Fliter, who is already a favourite with Hungarian audiences. The Wedding will be performed by three excellent young pianists, and Fülöp Ránki. Presented by: Budapest Spring Festival, Palace of Arts
