Mozart and Bruckner? The two composers rarely appear together on a concert programme, but, despite the striking differences, the listener can doubtless discern some connection between their two musical universes. This is all the more plausible if only because both were pursuers of German-Austrian musical traditions, whose places of birth - Salzburg and Ansfelden near Linz respectively - lie barely 100 kilometres apart. One of Mozart's most beautiful piano concertos will be interpreted by the 31-...year-old Balázs Fülei, who has already performed at the Konzerthaus in Vienna, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw and New York's Carnegie Hall. The conductor for the evening, a one-time assistant of Karajan and Bernstein, will conduct a Bruckner symphony which is rightly the composer's most popular of all due to its rich melodies and captivating moods.
