The National Philharmonic continues its series of concerts of dramatic works by Richard Strauss which have never or only rarely been performed in Hungary. The concert begins with a Strauss curiosity in the shape of music written in 1940 to honour the 2,600th anniversary of the Japanese Empire, a work that features Japanese temple gongs. The ballet The Legend of Joseph, which relates a biblical story, was commissioned by Sergei Diaghilev, the impresario of the Paris-based Ballets Russes, an...d premièred exactly a century ago. The piece will be accompanied by eye-catching choreography specially prepared for the occasion by Tamás Juronics, and brought to life by the Szeged Contemporary Ballet.
