It is cause for celebration when three soloists of exceptional quality take to the stage together, and all the more so as Kristóf Baráti, István Várdai and Dénes Várjon play a selection of beautiful works from the Romantic chamber music repertoire. The eldest of the three, Várjon is among the few solo performers in whose career chamber music occupies pride of place. Graduating from the Liszt Academy of Music in 1991 as a student of Sándor Falvai, György Kurtág and Ferenc Rados, he was also... a regular participant in master classes with András Schiff. His career was launched with victory in three major competitions: the Hungarian Radio Piano Competition, the Leo Weiner Chamber Music Competition and the Concours Géza Anda international piano competition in Zurich. Today, he is a regular guest of prestigious festivals, and has partnered musicians such as Steven Isserlis, Leonidas Kavakos, Miklós Perényi, Joshua Bell and Tabea Zimmermann. Respectively some 11 and 17 years younger than Várjon, Baráti and Várdai both saw their careers take a steep upward curve in the early 2000s. Violinist Baráti placed third in the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition in Brussels, where he also won the audience prize. In 2014, he was was awarded the Kossuth Prize, the highest Hungarian state honour. István Várdai finished third in the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and emerged victorious from two other prestigious international competitions - the Geneva Music Competition and the 2014 ARD Competition in Munich.
