The MÁV Symphony Orchestra will be guest conducted by the world-famous Jesús López-Cobos. Now in his seventies, the conductor initially studied philosophy and only later turned his attention to music. He graduated from the renowned conducting course at the Viennese Academy of Music as a student of Hans Swarowsky and went on to occupy the post of music director at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, the Spanish National Orchestra and Madrid's Teatro Real. The soloist Juan Pérez Floristán was only ...born in 1993, but has already earned an international name for himself. The two Spanish guest artists will be delighting the audience in style with a selection of music from and inspired by their homeland.
Manuel de Falla is the outstanding student of the school of musical impressionists. On listening to his piano concerto entitled Nights in the Gardens of Spain, we can almost smell the lush scent of flowers, while The Three-Cornered Hat ballet music evokes the tight rhythms of fiery dances in the mind of the listener. It may gaze upon the Spanish vista from a little further afield, but Maurice Ravel's Rapsodie Espanyol paints a similar picture. The Spanish Capriccio by Russian composer Rimsky-Korsakov introduces various Spanish dances for different times of day and occasions - but does not depart from Russian traditions in its instrumentation.
