Don Giovanni, one of Mozart's best-known operas around the globe, is being presented as part of a collaboration between the Ecuadorian-Hungarian Music Foundation (MusArtEH) and the Armel Opera Festival, in a production directed by Róbert Alföldi. In the story, which begins with a deadly duel, the handsome, murderous young knight of the title respects nobody and no law and continues to lead the carefree life of a heartbreaker. His taking of human life, however, cannot go unpunished. This unsettling feeling accompanies the viewer throughout the... opera - which also includes plenty of comic situations - until his deserved punishment is meted out. Róbert Alföldi is well known for his predilection for reinterpreting works and is a grand master of heightening and resolving tension, shifting emphasis all the while. This means that his direction is likely to help turn what is many people's favourite opera into something even more remarkable.
The Teatro Casa de la Cultura holds the Ecuadorian première.
Presented by: Armel Opera Festival - Armel Nonprofit Kft.
