Strauss: Don Juan, op. 20 Shostakovich: Violin Concerto no. 2, op. 129 Rachmaninov: Vocalise, op. 34 Rachmaninov–Kocsis: Fifteen Songs From time to time, National Philharmonic Orchestra and Zoltán Kocsis perform Richard Strauss’s symphonic poem which demands tremendous technical élan from ...its players. The ensemble and music director have also done much to bring Rachmaninov’s oeuvre to Hungarian audiences. Anatoli Fokanov requested Kocsis to orchestrate a further seven Rachmaninov songs. Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto no. 2 was written in 1967 for the 60 year old David Oistrakh. One of his students, Gidon Kremer will be the soloist in one of the great concerts of the season.
