A sport and a field of knowledge, an art and a form of entertainment, and above all, a game: this is chess. Marked by a rich cultural history, it is a universal means of communication that facilitates the connection and cooperation of people from the most diverse social, ethnic, educational, geographical, sexual and religious backgrounds.
Why then doesn't everyone learn to play chess, we may ask. Judit Polgár asked the same question, and acted upon it. The Chess at School programme ...is an initiative that is also supported by the European Parliament, and an elective subject in Hungary's National Core Curriculum. This great game and the associated education methodology foster logical and creative thinking, improve independent decision skills, and create excellent opportunities to compensate for those shortcomings of cogitative development that mark the digital age. Developing talent in chess is not an end in itself: it is beneficial for the children's performance at school, boosts the efficiency of their learning, and enhances their memory. The 8th International Chess Festival will bear ample testimony to all the above.
An event jointly organized with the Polgár Judit Chess Foundation.
Presented by: Judit Polgar Chess Foundation for Educational Benefits
