The most refined example of 1960s retro, this film is in this sense – and in terms of the spoken lines that have since passed into the everyday vernacular – a continuation of Péter Bacsó’s famous Az élet nem habostorta (Life is No Cream Cake). With the important difference that the cruel and disillusioned “teenage diary” of Péter Gothár and the writer Géza Bereményi evokes, in all its profundity and soothing redolence of life, the first loves of an entire "lost" generation, and the experiences o...f prison, dissidence and consolidation. The bravura stylistic touch of the writing pair is to expand the airless space from which the hit song of the title is heard, filling it with the reflected experiences of the student rebellion of 1968 and ensuing stagnation. Everything is pervaded by the light of the neon red star of the dance school, You Are My Destiny, the Beatles, Coca Cola and the incorruptible scent of "kevert" liquor. This epoch-making, still unsettling film won a dozen international accolades including the prize of the New York Film Critics Circle. Our visitors are kindly informed that this film will be screened in Hungarian. Presented by: Palace of Arts, MaNDA
