Extravagant make-up, oversized shoes and red noses - it is as if the traditions of the classic Russian theatre are being revived on the stage. The performance by OKIDOK, the Belgian duo of Xavier Bouvier and Benoit Devos, is a succession of short stories brought to the stage with improbably amusing scenes and striking stunts. A ball tumbles from the sky, a door opens into the great nothing - every moment is a meeting of the unusual and the creative. The plot and events on stage are merely a back...drop, the focus here is on the characters. Instead of the normal circus costume, the spectacle is eccentuated by the underpants of our grandfathers. The essential characteristics of the clown are embodied by these two figures: the laughable unfortunate and the clumsy oaf. The success of the show is heavily dependent on an audience that is appreciative of great comedy, masterful acrobatics and theatrical flair.
