There is no time of year as rich in events as the combination of winter solstice and Christian traditions that makes up the Christmas and New Year period in December and January. From the drinks sipped on St. Lucy's Day, the nativity scene at Christmas and the carols sung on St. Stephan's Day to the chanting on New Year's Eve and the stars given out on the Epiphany, countless folk customs were enjoyed by boys and girls, children and adults in the Carpathian Basin as they wished each other good health and prosperity into the new year, while remembering the significant dates of the Christian calendar, and Christmas in particular. These are the traditions revived by these guardians of tradition. Alongside the spoken and dramatic elements, dance also has an important part to play in their programme.
