Gergő Borlai, a Hungarian who now resides in Los Angeles, is sure to offer some joyous and funky moments in this Divided 3 concert. His previous two Divided concerts contained a number of surprises, so on this third occasion we can anticipate further excitement with a parade of stars and intriguing musical arrangements.
The other fulcrum of the rhythm section will be bass player Gary Willis, who has played alongside the world famous Wayne Short and is alongside Scott Henderson is the founder of one of the last true fusion bands in the history of jazz, Tribal Tech. Willis and Borlai have given countless concerts all over the world, and also performed together on Willis's last two solo albums. Llibert Fortuny, Spain's leading saxophonist, is also an old colleague of Willis and regularly plays alongside Gergő Borl...ai as part of a trio in Barcelona. The evening's 'big surprise' will be the appearance of Kirk Covington, another Tribal Tech veteran and one of Gergő's top five drummers of all time. Gergő and Kirk are old friends, and even recorded six hours of music together in Barcelona many years ago under the name Double D with a foursome of Willis-Kinsey-Covington-Borlai, though it remains unreleased. At the keyboards will be Dániel Szebényi, a remarkable young Hungarian musician who has been much sought-after by countless fusion jazz, rock and pop groups for years, whenever he finds himself with a little time to spare. Szebényi, who is blessed with exceptional sensitivity to style, a grasp of melodies and virtuosity, has enhanced the groups Random Trip, Ocho Macho and Kowalsky meg a Vega, and also works as a lyricist. By his own admission, Tribal Tech have been one of his greatest sources of inspiration ever since he was a child. The main bulk of the concert will feature Willis's compositions, though we also hear a few of Borlai's songs, too.
