This world music ensemble were formed by Denis Péan and Richard Bourreau in 1982. Their music blends different styles, with North African and French folklore providing the most salient features. While the band members often changed over the years, and the productions have included elements of street theatre, acrobatics, pantomime, dance and film, the two founders have remained mainstays of the group. The line-up that became stable by the end of the 1980s toured the United States. Their first rec...ord came out in 1993, and they have released ten albums to date. The North African trait of their music strengthened when singer-saxophonist Yamina Nid El Mourid and her sister Nadia joined the band. In 1999 they visited Mali, where they became involved in the organization of the 2001 Desert Music Festival, which brought them world-wide attention. They first performed in the Palace of Arts in 2009.
