  • Müpa Budapest is celebrating its 16th anniversary, so we have prepared a special surprise for our audience to mark the occasion. From 13 to 15 March, we are once again opening up Müpa Budapest's digital media library with all its treasures. Without registering, anyone will be able to take their pick from more than 100 HD-quality concert recordings and almost 50 literary evenings. This gives culture lovers the opportunity to form an exceptional virtual community of Müpa Budapest fans celebrating all over the world, travelling safely together through time and the imagination.

    The Naked Clown, a production by the Recirquel Contemporary Circus Company, the featured guest performer of the Cultura Nova Festival was met with astounding success in front of an international audience.

    Interrupting its Hungarian tour, the company set off to triumph at one of Holland’s most prestigious cultural festivals with the English-language version of its show, The Naked Clown, a joint production with Müpa Budapest. They were to be the highlight of the festival, since Cultura Nova based its entire image around this production, with its poster campaign in and around the town featuring the Hungarian company. Similarly to their resounding successes in Müpa Budapest, as well as in several theatres outside of Budapest and abroad, the Hungarian artists also received a standing ovation in Holland.

  • Zoltán Pólya,  photographer, MTI journalist for 13 years died at the age of 57.

  • Imre Kiss, general manager of the Palace of Arts requested to be relieved of his position on account of his deteriorated health. His term as General Manager ended on March 16, 2011. In the future, he will assist the work of the Palace of Arts’ management in cooperation with his successor, as Senior Advisor to the General Manager from March 17, 2011. The new management will be able to fully rely on his guidance, know-how and professional experience, as well as his domestic and international network of professional contacts.

  • Kossuth Prize awardee film director Károly Makk, a master of Hungarian motion picture, has passed away at the age of 91.

  • Palace of Arts is casting dancers and actors for its show The Naked Clown to premiere on 28 March 2014. Performed by the Recirquel new circus company and directed by Bence Vági, the production will premiere at the Budapest Spring Festival to go on at the Palace of Arts.


  • On 10 April, the Palace of Arts kicked off sales of season tickets for the 2013/14 season with a marketing campaign of a very different kind. During mini concerts from young students of the Snétberger Music Talent Centre at various locations around the city, those present were offered an information package containing not only a guide to the exciting programmes and star turns of the new season, but also an invitation to a special event.

  • Christoph Guyard, composer for the Council of Europe, has used a digital collection - a product developed by Hungary’s Inspired Acoustics - containing the sounds of the organ of the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall to record the Council’s anthem. The transcription of the tune of The Ode to Joy for orchestra, piano and organ has reached all relevant media across the globe, and therefore millions of people can hear the work of the French composer and the organ of the Palace of Arts in news reports about the Council of Europe.

  • The Géza Szőcs evening of the Literarium series originally planned for 21 October has been moved to a new time on 14 October.
