  • Ravel: Sonata No. 2 in G major for violin and piano
  • Tebogo Monnakgotla: Companion (seasons) (commissioned by ECHO) - world première
  • Prokofiev: Sonata No. 2 in D major for violin and piano, op. 94bis

"One of the finest violin debuts of the last decade." "Musician of special sensibilities." "A highly gifted soloist." These are the kinds of accolades you can read in relation to the performances of the Norrköping-born Johan Dalene, a 20-year-old Swedish-Norwegian violinist. The young artist, who already has a string of successes behind him, will perform the second concert in the Rising Stars Festival, the series from the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO) that showcases up-and-coming performers.

With a direct musicality and openness that enables him to engage effortlessly with musicians and audiences alike, Johan Dalene has already seen plenty of return on his musical talent, enjoying numerous appearances at international concerts, famed concert halls and highly prestigious festivals. Johan began playing the violin aged four and first performed in front of an audience at the age of seven. He has been selected for numerous projects that support young musicians, from the BBC New Gen...eration Artist programme to the Norwegian Crescendo programme. He has won the Norwegian Soloist Prize and also took first place in the 2019 Carl Nielsen International Competition. His career has been aided by mentors of the calibre of Janine Jansen, Leif Ove Andsnes and Gidon Kremer. He is currently a student of Professor Per Enoksson at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. He has signed an exclusive contract with BIS, a major Scandinavian record label, publishing his first CD at the label in 2019, in which he performed violin concertos from Tchaikovsky and Barber. Johan plays a 1736 Stradivari violin, which was donated to him by a foundation. In the near future, he is planning to play in concert alongside orchestras like the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic and the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, and under the baton of conductors such as Sakari Oramo, Franz Welser-Möst and Christoph Eschenbach.

Nominated for the Rising Stars programme by: Konserthuset Stockholm.

The new work being given its world première was commissioned by ECHO and Konserthuset Stockholm.

Supported by the European Union's Classical Futures Europe and Creative Europe programmes.
