The long-awaited Hungarian premiere of György Kurtág’s sole opera, a piano marathon featuring pieces by György Ligeti, the Hungarian National Dance Ensemble’s dance drama Castles, Warriors, Frontiers, and the surviving remnant of an opera written by the festival’s namesake: tickets are now available for the first events of the Liszt Fest International Cultural Festival, which will take place between 11 and 22 October this year.

Also on the schedule along with these classical music treats are top representatives of the Hungarian and international jazz and world music scenes, such as the legendary Clayton–Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, the Polish pianist/composer Hania Rani, known for her hypnotic compositions, and the Kronos Quartet, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Fans of Gypsy culture can drop in on a frenetic Roma wedding with a staged concert by the Boban Marković Orkestar, Parno Graszt, Mónika Lakatos and the Romafest Gypsy Dance Theatre
