The Budapest Dance Theatre was founded by choreographer Béla Földi in 1991. Since then, this repertoire theatre presenting the work of numerous creative artists from both Hungary and other countries has won great acclaim at international festivals. The company will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of its establishment all year long; its new premières are being made possible with the support of the National Dance Theatre, the National Cultural Fund, the Municipality of Budapest and the M...inistry of Human Capacities.
The Martian Chronicles was created in collaboration with the Hungarian State Opera and the music group Solaris. The Müpa Budapest audience has already had the chance to see Nederlands Dans Theater choreographer Jiří Pokorný's works under the title Dream Keeper, and these will be shown again here, with the same title, but in a different compilation including the choreography of Lóránd Zachár, on 27 December 2016. In the autumn, on 29 September 2016, Alexandra Sághy made her début as a choreographer with the première of her piece Balance at the MOM Cultural Centre.
The next phase of the successful collaboration with Kossuth Prize-winning actor László Gálffi that started with the piece My Daughter, Anne Frank will yield the production One Hundred Years of Solitude, coming to the stage on 6 December 2016.
The Budapest Dance Theatre continuously hold performances at theatres and festivals both in Hungary and abroad; its home theatre is the Hungarian National Dance Theatre. The gala programme will feature performances of the pieces Doze and Bolero.
