His Concerto no. 5 premiered in 1976 was written for György Lehel, the chief conductor of the Hungarian Radio Orchestra. One of the models for the work was possibly Bartók’s Concerto which Sergei Koussevitzky c...ommissioned for the Boston Symphony Orchestra. World wide, it is one of the most frequently performed orchestral works written after 1940. Between these works we shall hear Bartók’s Violin Concerto, written for Zoltán Székely. In 1988, Vilmos Szabadi played this work at the Royal Festival Hall with Sir Georg Solti.
