The most sought-after Carmen of our day is probably Clémentine Margaine, whose outer appearance has predestined her for the role of the famous femme fatale who seems to disturb the magnetic fields of the male soul. Just a few years ago, the French mezzo-soprano exploded onto the international opera scene with her powerful stage presence, and now enthrals audiences of the world's most famous opera houses with her deeply soul-piercing voice. Her partner is no less successful an artist: the French-Italian star tenor Roberto Alagna, who had a career spanning three decades, also performed the role of the lovestruck corporal with great success in live broadcasts in 2010. Alagna's wife Micaëla, a simple village maiden, is played by Aleksandra Kurzak, who debuted in the Metropolitan Opera in 2004. Playing the toreador Escamillo is the world-famous Russian bass singer Alexander Vinogradov.
Sir Richard Eyre has brought to the stage a piece that has been one of the Met's most popular for decades. As he has said, he strove to do so without making unnecessarily provocative changes, and he wants audiences to rise from their seats following the performance just as deeply moved as audiences were at the Paris world premiere in 1875. The opera, which is rich in timeless melodies, is conducted by French conductor Louis Langrée, who has been active in the United States in recent years.

The 'Metropolitan Opera Live in HD” transmissions have been made possible through the cooperation of our partner, Cikánek Management.
