Verdi: Requiem The history of the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra extends back to the 1870s, when Janacek founded the Czech Symphony Orchestra. In 1956, the Radio Orchestra merged with the Brno Region Symphony Orchestra to form the Brno Philharmonic which remains one of the leading ensembles in the country. They have worked with such conductors as Karel Ancerl, Jirí Belohlavek, Sir Charles Mackerras, Kurt Masur, Yehudi Menuhin and invited great soloists as guest performers. Aleksandar Markovi ha...s led the ensemble since 2009. A student of Leopold Hager, Gianluigi Gelmetti and Lothar Zagrosek he is a skilled interpreter of modern music and worked successfully as an orchestral and opera conductor with the leading ensembles of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria and Germany.
