Grigori Sokolov was just five years old when the Russian musical world first took notice of him. In 1960 he became a student at the Leningrad Conservatoire and in 1966, at the age of 16, he won the unanimous verdict of the jury presided by Emil Gilels winning the 3rd Tchaikovsky Piano Competition. This led to concert tours of Europe with the Moscow Philharmonic and then performances in North America and the Middle East with leading orchestras and conductors in the major auditoriums. Today, Grigo...ri Sokolov is one of Russia’s most celebrated artists. His wide repertoire (from Bach to Schoenberg), the seriousness and originality of his interpretations and the sheer precision of his playing enraptures both audiences and critics alike, wherever he plays
