Some of the "greatest hits” of the symphony repertoire in the best possible sense will be heard on this evening celebrating the finest in Czech music. Smetana's famous symphonic poem depicts the meandering route of the Vltava River in wonderful melodies. Miklós Perényi, a cellist now approaching legendary status, will perform Dvořák's concerto premièred 120 years ago, which will be followed after the interval by the mysterious and wonderful The Planets by Holst. The orchestra will be conducted b...y the highly energetic Péter Halász, who followed an opera career in Germany and years spent with Bernard Haitink and Adam Fischer. Presently he is taking up the post of Principal Music Director at the Hungarian State Opera in the spring of 2014.
