János Balázs's youthful energy is paired with exceptional technical qualities and a deep musical understanding, his instincts as an artist leading him safely to the highest level of professionalism. His performances are characterised by an individual musical outlook, where he dares and is able to give voice to his own imagination. His conviction is that music can only be created from the deepest and most sincere emotions of the soul. His exacting approach and humility before the music guar...antee the highest artistic value for the audience, and his concerts garner enormous success. The listener is granted not merely momentary pleasure, but something of lasting value to take away.
Despite his tender years, Balázs has already made his debut on Europe's greatest concert stages (the Vienna Konzerthaus, London's Barbican Centre, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, the Cité de la Musique in Paris, Birmingham Town Hall & Symphony Hall, the Megaron in Athens, the Philharmonie in Cologne, Barcelona's Palau de la Música Catalana, Stockholm's Konserthuset, the Dortmund Konzerthaus, the Philharmonie Luxembourg, Bozar in Brussels, and the Academy of Music in Budapest). He has also appeared on several occasions in Japan, China, Korea and the United States. The Junior Prima Prize-winning pianist's solo recital at the Academy of Music in February 2014 ("Three Faces of the Piano”), where he played some of the most difficult pieces in the instrument's repertoire (Ravel: Gaspard de la nuit, Balakirev: Islamey, Schumann: Toccata), earned the unanimous praise of the public and critics alike. The latter highlighted his elegant, sparkling virtuosity and profound lyricism, which 'weaves through the gaps between notes like silk'.
Winner of prizes at numerous international competitions, Balázs demonstrated his extraordinary improvisational skills at a concert held at the Academy of Music during the 2014 Budapest Spring Festival, where he gave a cathartic debut performance with Félix Lajkó. The melodies, rhythms and ideas generated spontaneously on that occasion created a special aura, bringing the audience into intimate proximity with the artists.
The season ticket series beginning in 2015 under the title of "Three Faces of János Balázs” promises a set of genuinely unusual and enthralling concerts. The first concert with the Anima Musicae chamber orchestra features a performance of two piano concertos by Bach and Chopin's Piano Concerto in F minor - a selection of works the artist has never performed publicly before. As Balázs puts it, he felt the time had come for him to perform the Bach piano concertos in particular. The guest artist at the second concert is Félix Lajkó, while the closing concert of the series will be a solo recital held in Müpa Budapest. The latter concert has already been advertised as part of the 2015 series of 'MVM Concerts - The Piano.”
'He plays piano like György Cziffra, or even better, and is a phenomenon unique in the world, besides which he has a lyricism that makes you genuinely frightened at his abilities.' (Tamás Vásáry, 2007)
'What János Balázs did was unbelievable, defying the laws of physics, as the piano keys themselves could not believe that they could move so quickly if called upon to do so. Without splashing or any noticeable wrong notes, everything is played clearly and remains within the boundaries of the intelligible and the enjoyable. […] Everything he plays is musical, colourful, lives and can be loved. He can be poetic, too. […] Stars, stars, twinkle brightly! - is the title of the folk song with which the pianist bid farewell. János Balázs's star is simply dazzling.' (Márton Devich, Heti Válasz, 2014)
