The conductor for the evening is a young man whose career has been on a steep upward trajectory in recent years - so much so that it is considered a cause for celebration when he takes to the podium in Hungary. Assistant conductor at the English National Opera and assistant to Pierre Boulez at the Luzern Festival Academy, Gergely Madaras is represented by the same talent agency as Simon Rattle, John Eliot Gardiner and Daniel Barenboim since 2012. He has conducted at the Amsterdam Concertge...bouw and the Hallé Orchestra in Manchester, as well as the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, but it is almost impossible to provide up-to-date information on the 30-year-old as he is constantly being handed new and exciting opportunities. One thing is certain; we will be hearing a lot more of this talented conductor.
He appears here with the pianist who placed third in the 2012 Paloma O´Shea Piano Competition in Santander, one of the world's most prestigious contests. He spent two years at the Mozarteum in Salzburg in the class of Imre Rohmann after graduating from the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music, before studying under Kirill Gerstein at the Stuttgart University of Music. János Palojtay has also participated in master classes held by Murray Perahia and Ferenc Rados, and his talent has also been recognised by such luminaries as András Schiff and Dmitry Bashkirov, who invited him on international scholarships following visits to Hungary.
These remarkably talented young artists will present two of the greatest works of symphony music with an orchestra from Szombathely that has earned a reputation for taking on highly ambitious projects.
