Featuring: National Choir (choirmaster: Mátyás Antal) Conductor: Imre Kollár Zoltán Kovács: Symphony no. 1 Ravel: L\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'enfant et les Sortileges – lyric fantasy (opera) Zoltán Kovács, born in 1969, is one of today’s most frequently performed living Hungarian composers. This Symphony no. 1 was written for the MÁV Symphony Orchestra in 2001. The symphony is programme music and its “hero” is St Agnes, who lived in Italy in the 4th century at a time of Christian persecution and ...died a martyr. Maurice Ravel (1875-1937) premiered his second opera, L\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'enfant et les Sortileges in 1925. This story that charms both adults and children is about a child whose mother nags him because he had not done his homework. The child in his rage takes it out on his cat and breaks all the objects within reach which magically come alive and confront him with the consequences of his deeds. The characters of opera are played by members of the National Choir.
