It has become a tradition of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra to devote one concert in its master season ticket series at the Palace of Arts to an outstanding female singer. The tradition continues this season with the first foreign singer to appear in the series. Ekaterina Lekhina was born in Samara, Russia, where she studied choral direction before graduating as an opera singer at Moscow's Choral Academy. She won the All-Russia Singing Competition in Saint Petersburg in 2005, as well as first prize ...in Paris in 2007 at the Operalia competition founded by Plácido Domingo. She began her stage career in Vienna in 2006 as Madame Herz in Mozart's opera Der Schauspieldirektor, quickly followed by the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, a role she has played in Munich, Berlin, Hanover, Treviso, Düsseldorf, Hong Kong and Beijing. Her next great role was Olympia in Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann, which she successfully performed at the Vienna Volksoper, as well as in Tel Aviv, Covent Garden and Monte Carlo. The evening's conductor Ádám Medveczky has been associated with the MÁV Symphony Orchestra since he started his career in the first Budapest International Conductors' Competition.
