Tenors exist in the minds of concert- and opera-goers as people who are constantly celebrated and of whom there are very few, which is why those who always carefully look after their health are greatly esteemed, but their sense of self-importance can be detected a mile away. Attila Fekete is a singer for whom these stereotypes are not even the least bit valid. He travels easily and cheerfully throughout the world, but on the podium or the opera stage, one can count with certainty on his voice an...d radiantly confident presence. Many no doubt remember the 'Nine Tenors' concert held 20 years ago at the Music Academy, which featured both Róbert Ilosfalvy and János B. Nagy. Attila Fekete sang Rodolfo's aria from La bohème in a supple and lovely voice with clear enunciation, and to all appearances hitting the aria's famous high C completely effortlessly. At that time, the management of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra tried to engage him to sing the tenor part in Verdi's Requiem. With the sweetest of smiles, however, Fekete refused the request, saying that he would prefer not to sing the part before reaching his thirties. Since then, he has sung the role many times, but even back then this thoughtful attitude, resisting the lure of success, made him a very appealing personality. How many concerts has he sung since then? How many operatic heroes and lyrical lovers? How many times has he taken the stage as the partner of one or another renowned diva? This time, at last, the concert will be about him.
