The Japanes city of Gifu maintains a particlularly close relationship with Hungary, the most important element of which is music. In 2011, the city, which is twinned with the town of Veszprém, even held a Liszt masterclass. The first half of the concert will feature the overture to Otto Nicolai's opera inspired by the Shakespearean comedy play, followed by two brief compositions by the leader of the Wien-Gifu Choir, who is also conductor for the evening. After the interval, Beethoven's Sym...phony No. 9, the music of cosmic joy and the brotherhood of peoples, will be heard with the Japanese chorus joined by the Budapest Youth Choir.
