  • Viktor Molnár: Mars Mission (prize-winner at the 2020 Müpa Budapest Composition Competition)
  • Liszt: Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-flat major
  • Liszt: Hungarian Fantasy
  •
  • Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 4 in A major ("Italian"), Op. 90

Taking the podium for the MÁV Symphony Orchestra's first concert at Müpa Budapest for 2022 will be the ensemble's new chief conductor, Róbert Farkas, who after graduating from the Liszt Academy went on to complete his conducting studies in Berlin, where he has lived ever since. A regular guest at several prestigious German opera houses, he also accepts numerous invitations to perform back home here in Hungary. In the autumn of 2020, he jumped in to conduct the MÁV Symphony Orchestra for the first time, presenting with great success a programme that had been thoroughly altered as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Alexander Ghindin, the soloist for the evening, was born in 1977 in Moscow, where he still lives, although he plays concerts all over the world.

Delighted critics are full of praise for his artistry. At this concert, he will be playing two of the piano pieces that Liszt wrote with orchestral accompaniment: following the famous Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-flat major, we'll hear the extraordinarily virtuosic Hungarian Fantasy, with its echos of the music from the Hungarian rhapsodies. Neither these works nor Mendelssohn's well-known and popular Italian symphony require advance praise. However, the audience will also get the chance to encount...er a new work at the concert: as part of its celebrations marking the 15 anniversary of its existence in 2020, Müpa Budapest held a composition competition, in which Viktor Molnár's Mars Mission was one of the winners in the chamber orchestra and chamber symphonic category. The audience will get to hear the Budapest première of this work at the MÁV Symphony Orchestra's first Müpa Budapest concert of the year.
