Conductor: László Kovács Featuring Dezső Ránki– piano Weiner: Suite, op. 18 Mozart: Piano Concerto in B flat major, K. 450 Elgar: Enigma Variations, op. 36 László Kovács has led the orchestra for over twenty five years and today they perform one of Mozart’s technically trickiest concertos, with one of the finest living Hungarian pianists. Leó Weiner’s Suite was first successfully performed by Frigyes Reiner in 1933. In the second half of the concert we hear a work that was successfully ...premiered by a conductor of Hungarian descent. Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations was first performed in 1899 with János Richter at the helm, launching the composer’s international reputation. The enigma is not the theme but the secret musical inspiration for it. Each variation is headed by a monogram on the printed score.
