Live broadcast with English and Hungarian subtitle.
Met Music Director James Levine returns this season after an enforced sabbatical due to health problems in time to conduct the first HD-quality live broadcast of Mozart's masterpiece from 1789. The production was first staged in 1996 according to the designs of Lesley Koenig, the brilliant director who has enjoyed a close association with the Metropolitan spanning 18 years.
In the role of Fiordiligi is Susanna Phillips, who... is spending her sixth season at the New York opera house from the autumn of 2013 having appeared in the preceding season in another Mozart opera, Don Giovanni, where she excelled as Donna Anna. Isabel Leonard previously sung the part of Dorabella to great success under the baton of Ádám Fischer at the Salzburg Festival in 2009. Of Matthew Polenzani, who plays Ferrando, the New York Times wrote that while the freshness of youth is still discernible in his voice, it has become a fuller, richer and more powerful instrument in recent times. Playing the other deceived lover Guglielmo, Rodion Pogossov has been a regular guest at the Met for more than a decade, while Danielle de Niese, appearing here as Despina, created a stir when she joined the opera's studio for young artists at the age of just 18. She is one of the rare singers of the front rank who is able to deliver world-class performances in the Baroque, classical Viennese, 20th century and contemporary opera idioms.
