Featuring: The Orchestra of Life, Nigel Kennedy Band Is perhaps Ellington the Bach of jazz? Or the other way round? Was Bach (since he was the greatest improviser of his time) the Baroque Ellington? Who would we believe if not Nigel Kennedy? Returning yet again to Budapest, this extravagant violin virtuoso premiered his at first glance unusual Bach-Ellington programme in London in September 2009, with the Philharmonic Orchestra. Bach has always been highly esteemed amongst jazz musicians, and... many enjoy improvising to his works, and there are innumerable arrangements and transcriptions. In his festival concert, Kennedy, who has always enjoyed a friendly rapprochement with the public, is not approaching jazz from Baroque but rather, in the other direction: he sees Bach’s colossal output from the standpoint of jazz.
