"Quivering with jealousy, organists have claimed that the art of Xavér Varnus is of no interest to them, although secretly they've been listening to him. His influence on the organists of our time is so great that no one can stand next to him, so that newcomers have tried to find success not by following, but by opposing him,” wrote György Faludy. The year 2013 brought unparalleled success for Varnus in a series of sold-out concerts: first he opened the Berlin Summer Festival in the city's cathe...dral, and then in October the International Organ Festival in Toledo. In 2014, he was asked by Iván Fischer to perform the opening concert of the Bach Marathon jointly presented by the Palace of Arts and the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the latter regarded as one of the world's finest orchestras. This year the world-renowned organ virtuoso marks his 50th birthday with two concerts. On 23 August, he gives a concert above the grave of the great J.S. Bach in the legendary Thomaskirche in Leipzig, while in November he returns to the Palace of Arts. After so many joint concerts with ground-breaking artists such as Rhoda Scott, actress Mari Törőcsik and Jacques Loussier, he will fulfil a long-standing request of his huge fan base by performing solo for one evening a selection of the most beautiful and virtuosic pieces from 300 years of organ music on the instrument he himself inaugurated in 2006. To confirm the review published in Canada's national daily newspaper The Globe and Mail on 8 May 1986: "Put simply, Varnus is a monster talent, every bit as stimulating and individual as the late Glenn Gould.” For some, it is impossible to describe in words the eye-opening power of his playing.
