Antonio Vivaldi wrote more than 25 cello concertos, but the Concerto in G minor (RV 531) is the only piece in his oeuvre composed for two cellos. Occupying a similarly unique place in Schumann‘s oeuvre is the Cello Concerto in A minor, completed in 1850. The cello also plays an important part in the music of Richard Strauss; we need only think of the tone poem Don Quixote. This evening we can hear another symphonic poem by Strauss, evoking the folk hero Till Eulenspiegel, but what pr...omises to be even more interesting is an instrumental fantasy based on one of his most successful operas, Die Frau ohne Schatten, which is seldom heard in concert halls in Hungary.
Since winning the International Pablo Casals Cello Competition in Kronberg, László Fenyő has been regarded as one of the world's leading cellists. Thanks to his breathtaking technique and powerful expressive abilities, every concert he gives promises to be a special experience. In 2005, he was presented with the Liszt Prize, and in 2008 the Junior Prima Prize. He is a professor at both Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts and the University of Music in Karlsruhe.
