Dezső Ránki graduated from the Liszt Academy of Music as a student of Pál Kadosa and Ferenc Rados in 1973. At the age of 18, he won first prize at the International Schumann Competition in Zwickau, and has performed worldwide ever since. Among others, he has played with the Berlin Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Orchestre National in Paris, under such famed conductors as Georg Solti, Sándor Végh, Lorin Maazel and Zubin Mehta. Since 1985, he ha...s performed with his wife Edit Klukon in duet recitals for four hands or two pianos. In recent years, the couple has taken the stage in Berlin, Paris, Tokyo, New York and London, while their joint recordings feature works by Liszt, Satie and Barnabás Dukay.
Ránki won the Liszt Prize in 1973, the Kossuth Prize in 1978, the Art Prize of the City of Budapest in 1982, the title of Artist of Merit in 1984, the Bartók-Pásztory Prize in 1988, the title of Outstanding Artist in 1990, and the Prima Primissima Award in 2005. In 2006, he was awarded the Commander's Cross with Star, Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary, and in 2008 the Kossuth Prize for the second time.
