This Sheherezade song cycle, based on verses by Tristan Klingsor was composed in 1903. We can sense Debussy’s influence in their musical language. The songs are called: Asia, The Magic Flute and Indifference. Ravel’s stage works were primarily inspired by ballet. He composed his ballet Daphnis and Chloé for Diaghilev’s company in 1912. The piece is a setting of Longos’s mythological pastoral novel.
