While the music of György Ránki, who died 25 years ago, is marked by its accessibility, imaginative sound, masterful construction and fantastic sense of humour, he also expressed poignant thoughts of philosophical profundity in his works. His Barn Dance of Szék is a short and merry hit of a piece, sparkling with creativity. He dedicated his Lament of Jesus, written for solo bass, mixed choir and orchestra, to Kálmán Záborszky and his orchestra. Záborszky also had a part in the Hungarian première of Berlioz's Te Deum. Written for solo tenor, double mixed choir and orchestra, the monumental work bears the subtitle "In memory of Bonaparte”.
