Doze
In Doze, Jiří Pokorný presents a world which stretches the boundaries of dreams. While not being submerged in its depths entirely, we find ourselves in a space that is full of surprises. As we drift along, we doze off before slowly returning to consciousness.
Gloomy Latitudes
This piece portrays in a simple way how we are able to resist reality, and to find opportunities for escape into unknown regions of the present, past and future by innumerable different means.... The most outstanding method is to engage in conversation with ourselves about these questions. This is the essence of what happens in our bodies while we move and pursue non-verbal communication with ourselves or with the invisible beings around us, all within the same timeframe. In this way, the opportunity arises for the viewer to witness and experience the world's moving discourse, which speaks and forms poetry from movements.
Jiří Pokorný joined the NDT2 in 2003, then continued his career as a dancer with the NDT1 from 2006 (NDT = Nederlands Dans Theater). He has worked with numerous leading choreographers (Jiří Kylián, Paul Lightfoot, Sol Léon, Mats Ek, Crystal Pite, and Ohad Naharin), while also creating choreography for the NDT2 and working as a teacher in the NDT's Move In programme, as well as at the Mediterraneo Dance Festival and with the Italian Architanz.
