Featuring: Budafok Dohnányi Orchestra Conductor and host: Gábor Hollerung Beethoven: Symphony no. 5 in C minor, op. 67 „This is fate hammering on the door.” According to Beethoven’s first biographer, this is how he described the four note motif that starts the symphony. From this simple germ grows an expansive movement which depicts mankind battling merciless fate with astounding power. The symphony exerted a great influence on Beethoven’s contemporaries. It prompted E. T. A. Hoffmann to wr...ite his famous sentence: “Music is the most romantic of all the arts!” The fifth symphony can be easily described as epoch making, because the word “romantic” had not been applied before to music. Conductor Gábor Hollerung talks about the secrets of the Fifth Symphony to the young audience.
