The Budapest Strings Chamber Orchestra launched the Opera Playhouse series earlier this year. The declared intent of this initiative is to entice young people into the world of serious art music. With its informal, loose and playful format, it offers an up-close look at the opera to those who have not had a chance to get to know or, for whatever reason, even encounter this art form. Although the programme is an especially superb opportunity for children aged 8-12, it can really be heartily... recommended to anyone who loves fantastic stories and performing.
Coming to life through the magic of floor pillows situated on a big, colourful play rug and the work of the stage directors will be the operas of Mozart and Donizetti. The Opera Playhouse promises children the kind of adventure where they can try out what it's like to be an opera performer, supernumerary, chorus member or singer. They'll get both a look into the secrets of musical drama and an opportunity to participate in the group rehearsal as they succumb to the magical grip of a work for the stage. Both the music and the driving dramatic forces will be topics for the afternoon - with Dániel Dinyés responsible for the musical exploration and the carefree action on stage guaranteed by Pál Göttinger.
Being performed are the exiting stories of Mozart's operas The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni and Donizetti's The Elixir of Love, in which matters of the heart cause turmoil amidst human conflict and clashes of conscience.
