Talamba Percussion Ensemble:

V. Tamás Nagy
László Grünvald
Miklós Szitha
Levente Zombor

What do two pebbles found on the side of the road and the most modern sound card have in common? The music that is encoded in them, and, of course, the rhythm and tempo that surrounds us everywhere. The Talamba Percussion Ensemble, which possesses one of the largest collections of percussion instruments in Hungary, will now show in a one-hour programme spanning both eras and continents why it is important for all of us to be aware that all human activities have their own rhythm. And one thing we can promise for sure: it will be a hit!

Twenty-three years ago, four students at the Liszt Academy befriended each other and named the percussion ensemble they formed together after the talamba, the "pot drum” of South Slavic origin. The group of friends became professional musicians over the decades, and, although their work has been recognised with numerous awards, the one they are perhaps most proud of is the Liszt Award they received in 2021. Their diverse activities are not limited to concerts: they also attend to the next genera...tions by teaching, organising camps and bringing the magic of music to disadvantaged young people. It is their publicly espoused credo that there can be no human life without rhythm, which pulsates in everything from the bloodstream to our breathing, and from the times of the day to the changing of the seasons. What makes this presentation of musical instruments around the world they are holding at Müpa Budapest special is how, covering distances that are equally huge in terms of both time and space, they introduce their audience to the not-so-obvious secrets of percussion instruments of the most diverse possible ranges of size, shape and colour. The four close friends - Tamás V. Nagy, László Grünvald, Miklós Szitha and Levente Zombor - are once again preparing for the interactive concert with their own compositions and both traditional and classical music, and of course, no little humour.
