Centre stage of this new series are the “tools” of music, the instruments. The audience learns about them through authentic performances of live music and with the verbal help of musicians. The concerts in the Glass Hall will have a dance house feel to them. „The Hungarian word cimbalom is of Greek origin, from kymbalon, which was a type of cymbal. The word was expanded to apply to a string instrument because of the way they were struck to make sound. The ancestors of today’s pedal cimbaloms wer...e little instruments with no pedal that were placed on an empty barrel or the table and then played. The great pedal cimbaloms were created in the 1870s in the Budapest József Schunda instrument factory. These days it is used primarily in gypsy bands, to accompany melodies or to fill out harmonies.” (based on Bálint Sárosi)
