Kaláka‘s records and concerts for children are an indispensable part of its history. The group's first record for children, A Pelikán, was released in 1985 and became its first gold disc. This was followed by Az én szívemben boldogok a tárgyak, Bőrönd Ödön, Ukulele, Madáretető and Nálatok laknak-e állatok? - each record a classic in its own right. As far as Kaláka‘s concerts are concerned, the secret of their extraordinary success lies not only in the sparkling songs themselves... but also in the interactive way the children are involved in the performances. All the members of the group were once pupils of the Zsuzsanna Lorántffy Primary School for Singing and Music, and thus consciously utilise what they were taught through the Kodály Method.
The songs on their latest album for children, entitled Ragyog a mindenség (The Universe Shines), take the form of children's verse by 24 contemporary Transylvanian poets set to music. Each member of the group has written music for six songs on the album. These will feature at this concert - naturally alongside a selection of their earlier hits for children.
