The three-person group Ethnosoundwill delight you with their interactive jamming and activities. The focal point for this show is a musical style that is today both undefinable and perhaps the most popular, one that has conquered hordes of music fans with its incredible diversity and variety. This rich program offers hands-on instrument demonstrations and communal music making, world music question-and-answer sessions, a mix of music from within Europe and beyond, and of course the opening up of the child's spirit.
We have been speaking about the phenomenon of world music since the 1980s, though the already broad definition has widened further in the decades since to make it almost limitless. In other words, perhaps it is easier to define what doesn't belong to world music than what does. Because while the term was initially applied to all musicians who developed outside Western culture, these 'world musicians' often draw from their own folk music, the unique worlds of their folk cultures, and spice things... up with elements of pop and jazz. The objective of Ethnosound's diverse team is for children not just to hear or see, but to touch with their own hands objects such as a donkey's jawbone or skin shed from a snake that have been turned into special instruments. The mission of the three-person team is to help as wide an audience as possible encounter the traditional musical values of the world, experience the joy of making music, the power of creating a community and the benefits it exercises on the body and soul.
