Musical talent can be recognised earlier than any other gift. In biographies of musicians, we often read how they could not yet speak, but were already singing and playing with sounds and rhythms. It isn't enough to merely recognise precocious talent, however: it needs to be nurtured and developed. It was with this in mind that the Academy of Music set up its Preparatory School for Exceptional Young Talents almost half a century ago, where a dozen youngsters at a time aged between 10 and 18 study piano, violin or cello under outstanding teachers. At this concert, today's audience will gain a glimpse into the ongoing musical progress of these students.
The performance will be followed by a free activity session at Banner Square called Reverberation for all holders of tickets for the performance.
